This oil on canvas painting depicts a serene scene looking towards a bright, sun-drenched room. It is a domestic interior scene painted from life over a day or two. The point of view is from the cooler unlit room toward the warmer sunny window that bathes the dining chairs, table, and floral arrangement in a bright afternoon light. The moment is still and contemplative. A quiet study, motionless and lonely but with active symbolic harmony caught during a few quiet hours of a late afternoon.
